“Save Me” is a familiar song from the television series “Smallville,” 1 which ran from 2001 to 2011. The popular series portrayed a younger Clark Kent growing up on the farm while attempting to juggle learning and developing his abilities and living a normal life through high school.

In real life, everyday heroes: first responders, firefighters, EMTs, police, and doctors display amazing tasks of rescue as they strive to daily save those in trouble.

In the Bible, we read that Jesus not only healed thousands of their physical and emotional sicknesses and diseases but was the only One who could raise the dead to life. John 11:40-43; Luke 7:11-17; Matthew 9:18-26. Because of His death and resurrection, He alone can give us eternal life.

What can I do? Sometimes, a cry for help isn’t audible. Someone is drowning in financial debt and worry; another has extreme family discord; an individual has just received the news of a terminal illness. In times like this, be open to the inspirational leading of the Holy Spirit.

My husband Kevin has told me numerous times that individuals will tell him how his prayers and giving in his food ministry, which includes assisting the homeless community, have literally saved their lives. He has shared with me stories of people who were going to end their lives, but God allowed Kevin to minister to them. This past April, while we were on a cruise for our 10th anniversary, Kevin (who loves to dress as Santa year-round) met a man who told him that he went on the cruise, which happened on the anniversary of the passing of his wife. The man was going to end his life while on the cruise. The man shared that his wife loved Christmas and everything about it. When he prayed, he asked the Lord to send him a sign not to end his life. When he boarded the ship, he saw Santa (Kevin) and was able to talk and pray with him.

Everyone has a chance to direct a person who is hurting to the One who loves them and will meet their needs. He will make a way around the obstacle or walk with them through it.
