Reverend Kevin Miles

Founder and President of Love Thy Neighbor Food Pantry. Kevin wears a variety of hats as he is also a minister at the Essex House of God and a manager at Dave & Buster’s in White Marsh. He is a retired Baltimore City police officer and is also a licensed Paramedic.
Kevin has many friends at “Streets of Hope,” a men’s shelter where he was once a client himself. He soon joined the staff as a volunteer and then as a paid employee. Today Kevin keeps in close contact with them as they each help serve the community from their respective agencies.
Kevin is a fun-loving, spirited guy who loves people. If he’s not entertaining the crowds at the food pantry, or the guests at his job, he is looking to find his next holiday costume.

Melody Ravert-Miles
Writer, Novelist, Singer, Actress (Wannabe), and Travel Chairperson at Essex Senior Center.
I have been writing Christian fiction and non-fiction books for fifteen years. I’ve also over the last decade, written articles for the online Examiner.com.
My sister Brenda had an Academy of Fine Arts and gave me my start in music and drama. It was in working part-time at her academy that she soon learned of my love for writing and encouraged me to write skits, plays, and monologues for our drama classes. My acting and singing moved me to get involved in our church that my husband Kevin and I attend together.
For the last couple of years, I’ve been volunteering at my local senior center travel office. It’s such an invigorating experience to plan and host day and overnight bus trips with other seniors and their friends and families. My maiden overnight trip was to New York City. I was so glad Kevin worked it out so he could come along with me.

About US

Kevin and I work together at our food pantry. I especially enjoy Tuesdays, the day designated to hand out food. I like the idea of working together with a great team of volunteers. As Kevin says, “We don’t just feed their bellies, we feed their souls.”
Yes, Our volunteers are faithful, loving and hard-working. Even though we only hand out food one day of the week, many days and hours are involved to organize, pick up food, stock shelves and clean afterwards. We are always looking and welcome anyone who would like to volunteer at our pantry.
I remember the first time Kevin decided to start a food pantry. He met a lady online named Catherine who had a food giveaway “Let’s Eat”. Kevin had contacted her and was anticipating assisting her by making deliveries or handing out at another location. She surprised him by stating that he could take the food and hand it out at his own pantry.
“I don’t have a food pantry,” Kevin admitted.
“You do now!” Catherine said with a charming grin. The rest as they say …is history!
We started giving away food from our driveway at our home in Essex, Maryland. We served about twenty to thirty individuals in our neighborhood.
A location to share space became available in Dundalk. It worked for a season, but as the need for more people and families needing food grew, we knew we needed our own space.
Love Thy Neighbor Food Pantry hands out food on Tuesdays from 12 noon to 3 PM. Our address is 155 Orville Road in Essex, Maryland 21221.
