Little is Much When God is in it.

Little is Much When God is in it.

Every week, Love Thy Neighbor Food Pantry feeds 1200-1500 individuals. These numbers include many households with four, five, six, or more people who need food. At Love Thy Neighbor Food Pantry, we are blessed to have such dedicated and caring volunteers who work sometimes four or five days a week just to get the pantry ready to distribute food one day each week. We are also blessed to receive all our food donations from local grocery stores and the Maryland Food Bank.

“What can I do? I’m only one person.”

Yes, but if we do what we can to build the kingdom of God, He will multiply it. Remember the small boy who wanted to do something for Jesus? He only had five barley loaves of bread and two small fish, but he gave them to the Lord.

“When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them and healed their sick.

As evening approached, the disciples came to him and said, “This is a remote place, and it’s already getting late. Send the crowds away, so they can go to the villages and buy themselves some food.”

Jesus replied, “They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat.”

“We have here only five loaves of bread and two fish,” they answered.

“Bring them here to me,” He said.  And He directed the people to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, He gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then He gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people. They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over. The number of those who ate was about five thousand men, besides women and children.” Matthew 14:13-21 NIV

For those of us who are parents, we have many opportunities to share our faith and teach our children God’s ways: Having devotions together, thereby encouraging them to have their own private devotions. We can take them to church with us. (It’s best when this is done at an early age), “Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord,” Ephesians 6:4 ESV.

If you still need help deciding what you can give to the Lord, ask a child. Many have such a loving and caring disposition.

Still unsure? Pray about it. Even a smile, an encouraging word, or holding open a door for someone will offer a blessing to others. When we do, we get one in return.
