A Daily Walk

Many individuals and families enjoy including a walk in their day. Maybe it’s with a friend during a lunch break at work or perhaps it’s part of a family outing.
I’d like to share some thoughts on a different kind of walk. Walking with Jesus.

Before Jesus ascended back to His Father in Heaven, He left instructions for his disciples.
“On one occasion, while He (Jesus) was eating with them, He gave them this command: ‘Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift My Father promised, which you have heard Me speak about. For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’ ” Acts 1:4-5 (NIV)

On March 30, 2025, our church, the House of God in Essex, shared the joy of participating in a water baptism service.
During this time, candidates had been previously instructed on the meaning of water baptism, following Jesus’ example of immersion by water. Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist at the beginning of His earthly ministry. Getting baptized doesn’t save a person; it is an outward public display of a new life by faith in Jesus and that person’s desire to follow Him every day of their life. We do this as we walk daily with Jesus.
Another pastor friend of mine who has gone to be with the Lord always shared that this walk is a “fellowship relationship.” So, how do we walk with Jesus? Acknowledge Him and put Him first in your life. Wake up in the morning and say, “Good morning Father, Papa, or Abba. Talk with the Lord during your time of prayer, Bible reading, and devotions. A note worth mentioning is that you can have individual talks with God as well as prayer and devotions with your spouse, children, or as a family.

There are so many ways we can love God and love others. The list is endless! Just as each one of us are individuals, our walk with Jesus will be unique. Enjoy His creation and thank Him for all His blessings and for sending Jesus to die on the cross. If you haven’t accepted Jesus as Savior and Lord, what is stopping you?
