Please and Thank You
Philippians 4:6 “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God”
Good Manners
We are a Barney and Friends1 family. My daughter Stephanie has been a fan of the purple dinosaur for thirty-three (33) years. One of Barney’s songs is called “Please and Thank You.” According to the song (and of course Barney), these two phrases are considered “magic words”. “Good Manners” is also another song we learned from Barney.
It is good and respectful to use these words in everyday communication; they can be used at home, school, and work. I’d like to suggest that we use these words in our prayers too. If we use them in speaking with other people, it would seem honorable and respectful to use them before our Heavenly Father. Let’s look again at the opening scripture verse:
Philippians 4:6 “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God”
Did you get that? God invites us to bring our requests and petitions to Him with a heart of thanksgiving. We need to include confession for any sin in our lives and offer sincere gratitude for all the many blessings He has already given us.
